In ways it is. It is like how you can get the Manaphy Egg from the Pokémon Ranger games to bring to the Generation 4 Pokémon games.

I think of them as mainline spin offs, same as Colosseum and XD. They're different, but they play the same, or mostly the same in the case of Legends. I just don't see them as true spin offs

The official answer is that it's mainline. However, I think that was less to align it with other mainline games...and more to get people to buy it. For me, it's a spinoff. Although all of the points here are valid, the biggest thing for me is really the actual genre of the game and what the gameplay actually plays out like. I throw the "monster catching" aspect as a defining point away here, because Pokémon Conquest and Pokémon Snap are monster catching games. But no one will argue they're mainline. All of the agreed-upon mainline games are primarily turn-based RPGs in the key aspect of the games. In trainer battles and catching a Pokémon, your only option is to enter a turn-based battle. I argue that PLA is as much of a stealth shooter as a turn-based RPG. I go so far as to say it incentivizes you to play it as an _action-based stealth shooter,_ and ultimately leans more in that direction than turn-based battling. Although you have _many_ of the tools as the agreed-upon mainline games in terms of the turn-based battles, as the video says, battles have been toned down. It's the only progressive game that actively _removes_ held items and abilities for battles. Whereas the focus of the game is not just "catching them all," but catching them all in high amounts. You _could_ do that via turn-based battle. But you'd have to disregard the most efficient ways of catching a Pokémon (i.e., sneaking up behind one and chucking a Poké Ball at its back) and you'd have to omit many of the Poké Dex tasks which require catching a Pokémon while it's eating. Or sleeping. Or without being noticed. Or while it's in flight. Not to mention you can't complete the game that way: you have to engage with the action shooting aspect for the Noble battles. You can argue Volo is the final battle. But in order to complete the task you're given at the onset, "Seek out all Pokémon," you have to beat Arceus. And you don't get to take them on only in turn-based battle. You have to aim your reticle at some point, and above all, evade their stages attacks on you, the player. It's the only mainline game that focuses, in the main action of the game, on a gameplay mechanic that is entirely missing from the rest. Action shooting. If it's mainline, so is Conquest, in my opinion. At least the battle there is strictly turn-based.

It’s mainline. I can transfer Pokemon in and out from home. Same applies to let’s go pikachu. If Pokemon post Gen 5 can go in and out of home/ bank, then it is mainline.

Why does this question keep coming up? Im about 85% certain that the pokemon company called the legends games mainline. Right?

Legends Arceus is a main line game and so is Legends Z-A. Yes they are a different in a way to other traditional games but they still keep aspects that we seen in traditional games. They just another type of main line games.

Game freak calls them mainline games along with BDSP and let’s go they are all mainline games. It will most likely be the same if Pokémon works makes a games as well down the line so it might be easier to say any Pokémon game made by GF/ILCA/Pokémon works is a mainline Pokémon game.

Pokemon Legends introduces new Pokemon that then appear in the mainline series and are added to the national dex. Ergo,they're mainline games.

I believe the Pokémon Legends game is a mainline Pokémon game. Despite the fact that they don't feel like it. But that's what I like about it. It feels so unique. And with another one under development, I'm interested in seeing what they have in store for Legends Z-A. Maybe you have to help construct a city.

You aren't alone. Neither have I seen the leaks. The channels that cover it usually cover (false) rumours, so I tend not to see their videos. My guess is that Pokémon Legends is a series on its own, but it has been treated as mainline by GF.

GameFreak directly stated on their official website that Legends is mainline, this really isn't a question. People really just don't take what GameFreak officially said is the true definition? 8:00 I feel like pokemon abilities HEAVILY affects gameplay when it comes to Pokemon at the very least. The only two times abilities weren't a thing in pokemon was the original gen 1 and gen 2 games as well as Pokemon Let's Go. Otherwise, we've had abilities, and they tend to make or break a pokemon in the long run. Did you love using Steelix in Legends Arceus? Well too bad it doesn't have its Sturdy ability which means it's easily screwed by any special attacker. Also, why the heck did they make bulk up and calm mind the same thing? It now boosts all attacks and defenses instead of doing what they're supposed to do. All I hope is that the game works fine and they keep the free lancing catching mechanic Legends introduced.

Anyways, it might be interesting to discuss historical and abandoned places in pokemon, and what made them so great. Plus, what you'd like to see in future pokemon games in relation to the lore and possible story of a region and how it came to be, etc. Just a thought. 🤔🤨😁

According to the Pokemon company, Crature Inc. and Game Freak, Legend: Arceus is a mainline game (this was already decided in the promotion of the game). And since the game companies and the creator have this opinion, I don't think it needs to be questioned and makes the question bit funny. Because, is not up to the gamers and fans to decide what is the main line and what is a spin-off game.

Mainline does matter in terms of VGC

I do think the legends games are mainline games because gamefreak made the legends games and in their existence as a company for Pokemon has only made the mainline games and doesn’t make the Pokemon spin off games. The only spin off game that gamefreak has ever made is Pokemon quest since 1998 the year Pokemon spin off games first began and came out. All the other spin off games have been made by other companies and were behind them. And gamefreak had nothing to do with the development of all of those spin off games besides Pokemon quest. Bdsp is a mainline game remake that is a remake of Pokemon Diamond and pearl which is a mainline game which bdsp was only game made by other company. Just like let’s go is a mainline game and not a spin off game that was also made by gamefreak. Pokemon isn’t the only franchise that has spin off games and mainline games. Halo, Mario, Zelda, and many other franchises that has spin off games and mainlines.

Not sure if you've seen it or anything, but a few of these choices do have other forms in a special fan game. Pokémon Insurgence redesigned a number of mons and gave a few megas.

Whether it's considered a spin-off, a gaiden or whatever, Scarlet/Violet cemented it in the mainline universe/timeline by way of the photos of Laventon in the classroom, the Hisuian forms available in the DLC areas and Perrin.

I agree the Pokémon Legends game are actually mainline. The Pokemon Legends Z-A is just as important as the other mainline games in the series.

I think the best way to tell nowadays whether a game is mainline is whether it can connect to Pokemon Home and you can transfer Pokemon to and from that game. 😂

I consider it a mainline game because the battle mechanics are overall closer to the rest of the mainline games instead of any of the spin-off games. Also, every list I can find online considers Legends Arceus a mainline game.

The benefit of turn-based combat is that it feels like you’re the trainer commanding the Pokémon instead of just playing as the Pokémon.

Mega dragonite being dragon normal would be crazy. Lose the 4x ice weakness and stab on e speed.

Very Hottake, but my most wanted mega is one for Aegeslash. I do want one for Flygon and Luxray as well. I’ve seen leaks of Goodra and Noivern getting one and now I want them. Definitely want one for all 3 original gen 6 starters. Seeing one for Talonflame could be cool. As well as the 2 Box art legends. There’s def more, but those r like the main ones imo.

I would love to see Pokémon try a live action combat system in a Pokémon game. Even if the stuck to a 2d/3d graphic style for the game and had the combat be in a separate instance like it is now. Will it happen? Probably not but one can hope and dream right. Until then I will just enjoy what we have and look to the future.
